Is Stretching Important For Warm-ups?

Your warm-up stimulates your neuromuscular system and prepares your brain for coordinated movement activities, such as workouts or oblique exercises. As you start putting more mind into your muscles, you’ll increase your body awareness. This heightened body awareness reduces your risk of injury. When you finish your warm-up, you should have broken into a light sweat. You should feel a greater ease of movement. Now, your body is prepared for more vigorous activity.
When it comes to stretching as part of your warm-up, this is really a matter of personal preference. Research studies have not been able to demonstrate conclusively that stretching as part of the warm-up prevents injury. Studies, however, have shown that post-workout stretching reduces muscle soreness. If you enjoy incorporating warm-up stretches, be sure not to bounce, as you risk tearing a cold muscle. Keep your stretches shorter (eight to ten seconds), since your muscles are not completely warm enough.
